WICKLOW WAY - 10 Day Tour
(INDEPENDENT TOUR)
Our 10-day self-guided trip along
the Wicklow Way that gives you the opportunity to see a little
more of our Garden County. Like the rest of our self-guided
tours this can be tailored to suit you. Our sample itinerary
is from south to north but can be reversed around if it suits
you better. The reason we have the trip designed this way
is that you have all your travelling over in the first day,
and when you finish your tour you are approximately 45 minutes
away from Dublin city centre.
ITINERARY OUTLINE
Day 1
Dublin to Clonegal: On your first day you will take the bus
from Dublin to Bunclody. Where we will have you picked up
and taken to your first accommodation, which is just outside
the village of Clonegal.
Day 2
Clonegal to Shillelagh: Distance: 23 Km, 14.3 Miles, Height
gain: 122m, 366Ft.
On day two, your first day of walking takes you along some
country roads through Newry forest, over Moilishe and Stookeen
Hill down into the town land of Mungaculin. Your accommodation
for the night will be in the 17th century village of Shillelagh.
Which is famous for giving its name to the classic Irish stick
cut from the hawthorn tree, "The Shillelagh"
Day 3
Shillelagh to Tinahely: Distance: 16 Km, 12.3 Miles, Height

Your journey from Shillelagh will take you back once again
onto some quiet country roads. On your way you will pass St.
Finian's Church; St Finian was a holy man from County West-Meath
who is associated with Christianising the area. Tinahely is
your destination for today. This little village on the banks
of the river Derry was destroyed in the 1798 rebellion but
was subsequently rebuilt and found a new lease of life with
the coming of the railway in 1865, now a very beautiful village.

Tinahely to Moyne: Distance: 14 Km, 8.7 Miles, Height gain:

have passed through, and the adjacent counties of Carlow and
Wexford; it also passes through an old Ring Fort or Fairy
Fort.

the Ow Valley and the Glenmalure Valley. The Ow Valley lies
at the base of Wicklow's largest Mountain; Lugnaquillia standing
at 925m/1039Ft. The Glenmalure Valley is Ireland's longest
glacier valley that stretches for over 16km/10miles, this
peaceful valley will be the perfect place for you to spend
the night.
