New Year Walking Break

CONNEMARA NEW YEARS BREAK

A New Year celebration with a difference

A way to spend those funny days around the New Year and an opportunity to let go of some of the old habits of the passing year and embrace the opportunity to create some new habits for the incoming year.

Walking in the remote, beautiful unspoilt countryside of Connemara, free style dancing, relaxing and of course a cosy New Year’s Eve celebration that will get you ready for everything that the New Year has to offer you.

Footfalls, Caitríona Nic Ghiollaphadraig and the Kylemore Pass Inn Hotel have joined together to offer you this wonderful New Year break.

Day 1: Tuesday the 30th of December

Pickup in Dublin at 12 noon, or Shannon Airport at 4pm approximately and transfer to our accommodation in the Kylemore Pass Inn Hotel, which is set in the heart of the unspoiled Connemara Mountains. Nestling just off the shores of the tranquil Kylemore Lough and cradled by the 12 Bens and Maum Turk Mountains, the hotel offers a unique charm and atmosphere that is in keeping with the seasonal spirit.

After settling in to your room we will have a welcome drink by the fireside, a briefing on the days to come and meet the charming Caitríona Nic Ghiollaphadraig who will introduce you to her therapeutic 5Rhythm Dancing.

After dinner we will have some fun and games in the bar before retiring for the night.

Day 2: Wednesday the 31st of December

After breakfast we will visit one of Irelands richest National Parks, The Connemara National Park, covering an area of 2,000 hectares of scenic mountains, expanses of heather clad bogs and grasslands.
The parks rich wildlife and exceptional scenic and environmental value makes this a wonderful relaxing start to your break.
This walk is guided, but the variety of excellent trails that the park has to offer allows you the choice to do your own thing. You can wonder around in silence soaking up the peacefulness and beauty that the park has to offer or stay with the group and go on a longer walk into the valley.

We will return back to our hotel around 2pm for soup and sandwiches by a warm fire in the cosy Sailor’s Bar.

Caitríona takes over your afternoon adventure with her 5Rhythm Dancing, movement, meditation and a way to get in contact with your inner spirit.
Early this year a film crew visited Caitríona and the Pass Inn Hotel to check out her dancing. You can view this here: click here... and then click on Musical Movement.

The day ends at 5pm when you will have the choice to go and relax in your room, read a book by the fire or take a drink in the bar.
Dinner will be served in the dining room at 7.30 pm, followed by a quiet New Years Eve Party!!

Day 3: January 1st 2009 “Happy New Year”

“Another fresh new year is here . . .
Another year to live!
To banish worry, doubt, and fear,
To love and laugh and give!

                                           William Arthur Ward

After a relaxing breakfast you will have a chance to meander down to Kylemore lough, enjoy some time on your own before returning back to the hotel to meet Caitríona for another relaxing session with her 5Rhythm Dancing.

After lunch we will board our small bus for a short ride to Killary Fjord. This is Ireland’s only Fjord, stretching inland for nine miles and boasting some of the finest scenery to be found in the west of Ireland.

Our walk takes us west along by the Fjord on an old historical famine relief road that was constructed in 1856 by local people in return for food.
This part of Ireland would have being badly effected by the great famine of 1845 to 1849 and as we walk along we will see the remains of the old potato beds (Lazy Beds) and the ruined remains of the small cottages, clear evidence of this dreadful period in the history of Ireland.
Thankfully today this is a much happier place, with mussel and salmon farming taking place in the Fjord to our right and sheep farming to our left as we wander along.

Our walk finishes in the small harbour of Killary, where our bus will meet us and takes us back to the hotel for some warm punch by the fire.

Celebration dinner at 7.30 followed by presentation of certificates and farewell drink, some more fun and games in the bar before retiring for the night.

Bed when ever!

Day 4: January the 2nd 2009

After a hearty and relaxing breakfast we will say our farewells to Rose, Stuart and all at the Kylemore Pass Inn, Caitríona Nic Ghiollaphadraig our 5Rhythm friend and head east along a new road in a new year.
