ITINERARY - DONEGAL & MAYO

Day 1
The Tour starts in Dublin Airport at 1.00pm and takes us on a drive through some very beautiful countryside to our first accommodation in the village of Bunbeg Co. Donegal. After arriving and settling in to our accommodation your guide will give you a briefing on your weeks activities

Day 2

On our first days walk we visit Horn Head, renowned for it's isolated sandy beaches, costal views, wild flowers and Hundreds sea birds that nest on it's 500 foot cliffs to the north. Our walk starts just outside the village of Dunfanaghy and takes us west to Tramore Strand. 1 and half miles of a golden sandy beach, if you would like a swim in the Atlantic Ocean this is the spot, so bring your swimming clothes! Our walk then takes us North to Horn Head where we will have breathtaking view of Rosguill and the Inishowen Peninsulas to the right and out to Tory and Inishbofin islands to the left and south to Muckish and Errigal Mountains.
Distance: 15Km, 9 Miles, Ascent 360Mtrs, 1080Ft

Day 3
In the first half of the day we will climb Donegal's highest peak Errigal. A most impressive mountain and if the day is clear we will have some fantastic views from what is known as Irelands smallest summit! The trail takes a well-defined tourist track from the car park to the top and back the same route. So you are under no obligation to take on the whole walk, you cam go half way and return or you can decide to take the morning off.

In the afternoon we will visit Glenveagh National Park and Glenveagh Castle, which is sheltering at the foot of the Derryveagh Mountains. One of the most noticeable features of Glenveagh is its wilderness character with the sense of remoteness and solitude that it conveys.
Total Distance for the day, 8Km, 5 Miles, Ascent 520M, 1560F

Day 4
Today we bid farewell to all in Bunbeg and move on to our new accommodation in Donegal Town. The road south takes us along some country roads with spectacular views of the countryside on one side and the ocean on the other.
Our walk is on Slieve League, that boasts of being home to some of the highest sea cliffs in Europe (2000ft) this is an unforgettable walk on one of the finest trails in the country taking in some magnificent and breath-taking scenery.
Distance, 14Km, Height gain 425M

Day 5
We will take the morning off to explore the historical town, which has many relics of the past to remind us of it's proud heritage, most notably being it's 15th century castle, built by Hugh Roe O' Donnell in 1474.

Then it is on to our final accommodation in Newport Co. Mayo. On our journey we will stop off at Drumcliff Churchyard, sheltering at the base of Benbulben Mountain, to pay our respects to one of Ireland's most gifted writers, William Butler Yates. From Drumcliff the road takes us to Ballycastle in north Co. Mayo where we will visit the oldest known field systems in the world, The Céide Fields. Professional guides and an audiovisual will take you back thousands of years in time. They tell a story of the everyday lives of the farming people, their organized society and their struggle against a changing environment. We promise you that you won't be disappointed in this day.

Day 6
Today's walk takes us on two of Ireland's way marked trail, The Western Way and The Bangor Trail.

The walk is a complete contrast to anything that we will have done this week. It takes us into the heart of the Nephin Beg Mountains and through a forest of Sitka Spruce. You will have the experience of walking through one of the last remaining, undisturbed blanket bogs in Europe. Through 200 square miles remote moorland and pasture, nothing but brown heather spreading as far as you eye see.
Distance 13Km, Height gain 280M

Day 7
Our final days walking takes us onto Achill Island, an island hosts a great sense of peace and tranquillity, unspoiled and an unrevealing natural beauty. Our walk takes us along some quiet country lane-ways and tracks to the slopes of Slievemore where we will visit the famous Deserted Village. The village was deserted during the Great Famine of 18 45 to 18 49. It once had over 100 dwellings but today lies in ruins, a haunting reminder of times past. Our walk finishes on Trawmore Beach, so this may be your last chance for a swim in the Atlantic! This is a day to be savored and never forgotten.
Distance: 10Km, 6 Miles, Ascent 190Mtrs, 600Ft

Day 8
Depart for Dublin Airport arriving at 1.30pm.
